should we worry?
 Hoje, durante uma aula de Gestão de Risco [trádúçãum Edibérrrto Lima], fiquei um pouco atarantado ao descobrir alguns dos perigos que por aí andam, verdadeiras bombas prestes a ser detonadas, devido à falta de cuidado e por vezes desconhecimento da verdadeira natureza da matéria em causa. Falo por exemplo de silos repletos de nitrato de amónio (ou sulfato de amónio). Este é um composto difícil de ser detonado, mas perante um certo conjunto de condições, acaba por dar fruto a um belo cogumelo de fogo, como a foto abaixo mostra (exemplo do que falo nos EUA). Camiões que transportam produtos perigosos são outro exemplo que desafiam a Lei de Murphy. Para quem não conhece, esta enuncia que se algo pode correr mal, isso irá acontecer na altura mais inconveniente. |  Today, during a lesson of Risk Management, I got a little dazed with the discover of the hazards that walk side by side with us, true bombs waiting to be detonated, due to lack of care and sometimes to unfamiliarity with the true nature of the substance in cause. I speak for example of storage facilities full with ammonium nitrate (or ammonium sulphate). This is in fact something difficult to detonate, but when a certain set of conditions get together in any bizarre way, it may finish on a huge fire mushroom, as the photo below shows (example in U.S.A.). Trucks that carrie dangerous products is another example that defies the Law of Murphy. For whom not familiar with it: if something can go wrong, it will go wrong at the most inconvenient time. |
No entanto, o pior de tudo veio depois. Consta então num estudo dos "américas" que as Ilhas Canárias representam um grande perigo, que inclui os tugas na longa lista de alvos. Evidências geológicas sugerem que uma futura erupção do Cumbre Vieja, na ilha de La Palma, poderá originar a queda de 150 a 500 km cúbicos do flanco oeste da mesma no mar, e daí formar um tsunami devastador com 900m de altura. Este amigo dos surfistas parece que está na moda. A costa africana poderá contar com ondas de 50-100m, a costa Americana, em particular Flórida, pode contar com ondas 20-30m e nós com qualquer coisa a rondar os 7m. Poderemos dizer que nem é muito mau para nós, pois a própria ilha causadora do evento, protege-nos.. ou faz que. Vamos então todos dar as mãos e pedir a quem manda neste circo que tal coisa não aconteça.
